Treasury Today Group is proud to announce a new media partnership with Washington-based Association for Financial Professionals to promote the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) and its sister qualification the Certified Corporate FP&A Professional (FPAC) credential.
The Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation is a benchmark of competency in finance and the leading professional credential in corporate treasury and cash management. It supports people to expand into new roles, gain promotions and leadership opportunities and stay relevant in a fast-changing profession. Certification holders say the qualification has given them another level of subject matter expertise and confidence and increases treasury and finance professionals’ earnings power too.
To date, more than 40,000 treasury professionals across 76 countries have taken the next step and become a CTP. Last year the AFP welcomed 178 new Certified Corporate FP&A Professionals from Fortune 500 companies such as Amazon, PepsiCo and Verizon Communications in a programme focused on financial analysis, planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting that has also expanded globally.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with AFP – education and skills that unite professionals globally and help them achieve the recognition they deserve are critical,” says Sophie Jackson, CEO of Treasury Today Group.
“We are excited to be working with Treasury Today to broaden awareness of the CTP in global markets,” says Pat Culkin, President & CEO of AFP. “In the last year, individuals from 76 countries have begun the process of earning the CTP. Our partnership with Treasury Today exposes these treasury professionals to outstanding educational content guided by impeccable journalistic standards.”
A qualification backed up by research
The CTP offers an alternative qualification and endorsement from traditional bachelor’s and master’s degrees. According to a study conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, executives, supervisors and HR professionals increasingly consider industry or professional certifications in the hiring process. Other statistics tell a similar story. For example, over three quarters of executives, supervisors and HR professionals believe that individuals who hold certifications bring value to the workplace, gain more credibility and are considered strong performers.
In fact, the AFP argues that professional certification is so valuable to employers, some companies believe candidates with only a professional certification (no bachelor’s degree) are just as qualified and prepared for the job – if not more so – than candidates with a bachelor’s degree and no certification.
Evidence from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that individuals with a certification or license participated in the labour force at a higher rate and experienced a lower unemployment rate than those without one of these credentials. Moreover, Gallup, the American analytics and advisory company says certifications that are granted by an industry association are particularly valuable because they are tailored to meet industry needs.
“I highly recommend the CTP to others because having a mastery of the field signals to your company, and other treasury professionals, that you are serious about the work you’re performing.” Mark Grisamore, CTP, Treasury Manager, at Globus Medical in Philadelphia says, “I wholeheartedly recommend the CTP certification to others. The credential has enhanced my credibility and expertise in the field of treasury technology, opening up new opportunities for career advancement and professional growth.”
Kanika Bharti, CTP, OMERS Administration Corporation in Toronto, a treasury professional with 15+ years of experience adds. “Earning the CTP has given me a distinct edge over my peers. Given how highly regarded it is in the treasury field, you could say it was a strategic move.”
The CTP Examination is a competency-based test that consists of 170 multiple-choice questions that reflect globally recognised standards, practical concepts and theories in treasury management. Developed and updated every three years by experienced treasury and finance practitioners, the CTP exam evaluates the expertise required to perform critical treasury functions effectively whether maintaining corporate liquidity to managing internal and external relationships and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The CTP exam is offered during two testing windows each year — June/July and December/January.
Interested candidates should start by reviewing the Certification Candidate Handbook, which contains the rules, regulations and details regarding progress through the certification process and a must read before applying for the exam and selecting a testing window.
