Women in Treasury London Forum 2019

This year’s Women in Treasury London Forum took place on Thursday 12th September at the fabulous venue of Plaisterers’ Hall in the City of London. This is the seventh year of this vibrant and hugely popular industry event which is firmly established in the diaries of both female and male corporates across the industry. This exuberant event was attended by over 200 people.

The forum opened at noon with a buzzing pre-lunch networking reception featuring an informative presentation which showcased some of the key findings of our Women in Treasury Global Study 2019, proudly supported by State Street Global Advisors. The reception was followed by a three-course lunch in the ballroom, during which an inspirational and insightful panel discussion took place with our leading industry panellists. The discussion was moderated by Sophie Jackson, Joint Publisher & Head of Strategic Content, Treasury Today Group, who facilitated a lively debate on some of the key topics highlighted by the respondents of this year’s study.

Hailey Laverty

Group Treasurer, InterContinental Hotels Group plc (IHG)

Hailey Laverty is Group Treasurer at InterContinental Hotels Group plc (IHG). Hailey has ten years’ experience in a wide range of treasury areas, including funding, cash management, systems, treasury control and accounting. She completed the AMCT in 2012. Hailey started her career at Deloitte and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2004, before moving to Rolls-Royce plc where she spent ten years in various accounting and treasury roles.

Joseph Peka

Deputy Treasury, URENCO

Joseph is Deputy Treasury for URENCO where he is responsible for treasury risk, operations and technology. He is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant and Associate Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers. His 19 year experience as a treasury specialist includes working as a treasury consultant for KPMG and PWC and as a treasurer for international insurance, retail and energy businesses. He was until recently a Council Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, mentors treasury professionals and supports the ACT.

Joanne Bates

International Treasurer, Worldpay, Inc.

Joanne Bates is co-treasurer of Worldpay, Inc, which was recently taken over by FIS Inc. She is responsible for DCM, risk management, cash and liquidity and bank relationships, as well as regulatory matters relating to PSD2. With over twenty years’ experience in international treasuries based in and around London, including Cable & Wireless plc and Virgin Media plc. In her spare time Joanne advises a not for profit that provides accommodation for the homeless and enjoys reading, watching box sets, spending time with her children, eating out and walking.

Nadya Hijazi

Managing Director & Global Head of Global Liquidity and Cash Management Digital, HSBC

Global Head of GLCM Digital and Global Head of Digital Business Banking Programme, based in the UK. Responsible for the day to day running of a number of global digital platforms across commercial and global banking. These include HSBCnet, HSBC Connect, SWIFTnet and a number of domestic business banking channels, as well as accountable executive for GLCM Digital Change programme; Digital Business Banking lead and an accountable executive on Digital Transformation for Corporates focused on the transformation of the Group Digital Channels.

Pia McCusker

Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Cash Management, State Street Global Advisors

In her role, Pia manages a team of 23 investment professionals, including portfolio managers and credit analysts globally with $350 billion in assets under management across all Cash strategies. Pia is a member of the firm’s Senior Leadership Team and has over 20 years of credit and investments experience. In addition, she chairs State Street’s Independent Fiduciary Committee and is a member of the North America Valuation Committee, CCAR Steering Committee, and Diversity and Inclusion Council. Pia holds a BA in Economics and American Studies from Brandeis University, as well as an MS in International Economics and Finance also from Brandeis University.

Sophie Jackson

Joint Publisher & Head of Strategic Content, Treasury Today Group

Sophie Jackson is Joint Publisher & Head of Strategic Content at Treasury Today Group and has 12 years’ experience in publishing. She began her career in a role in cultural publishing at the Dazed Group in London before moving to Tokyo in late 2010 to work as a freelance editor and consultant. Sophie headed up the launch of Treasury Today Asia in 2012 whilst based in Japan and then Hong Kong. Treasury Today Asia is now read by 65,000 corporates across Asia Pacific and our Adam Smith Awards Asia are in their sixth year. Sophie is a driving force behind our global Women in Treasury initiative and a passionate proponent of diversity and inclusion. She is a UCL graduate who studied in Paris and London and is based in Europe.
