Press release: Nuveen Infrastructure completes acquisition of 27MW Italian wind farm
Published: Sep 2025
9th September 2025 – Nuveen Infrastructure, one of the world’s leading clean energy infrastructure managers, has successfully completed the purchase of a 27MW onshore wind farm in Southern Italy from OX2 on behalf of the Nuveen European Core Renewable Infrastructure strategy.
The project, located in Italy’s Apulia region, is now fully operational following acquisition through a forward purchase agreement in 2023, with OX2 finalizing construction in May 2025.
This successful acquisition builds on the strategy’s previous milestones: the purchase of a 47MW Swedish onshore wind portfolio in early 2023; a 15% stake in Borssele III&IV offshore windfarm, and 100% ownership of a 30MW Finnish onshore windfarm – further strengthening its renewable energy portfolio across Europe
The Nuveen European Core Renewable Infrastructure strategy, launched in partnership with MN, continues to offer investors exposure to brownfield renewable projects across key European markets including the Netherlands, UK, France, Spain, Italy, the Nordics, Germany and other Benelux countries.
Joost Bergsma, Global Head of Clean Energy, Nuveen Infrastructure, commented: “We are pleased to announce that the Apulia wind farm is now fully operational, delivering clean energy to Southern Italy. This project, along with our track record in the Borssele offshore wind stake and Finnish onshore windfarm, significantly advances our European renewable infrastructure strategy. These acquisitions should help enable our investors to benefit from the relatively stable returns operating clean energy infrastructure seeks to provide while also contributing to Europe’s clean energy transition.”
Matthias Taft, CEO of OX2, added: “The successful completion and handover of our first Italian project marks an important milestone in our relationship with Nuveen Infrastructure. We’re proud to see this project now generating clean energy for the region and look forward to our continued expansion in the Italian market across onshore wind, solar, and energy storage technologies.”
