24th March 2026 – The 2025 PwC China Sustainability Report is released today. “As we outline in our report, reinvention is central to our strategy for leadership and growth,” says Hemione Hudson, Chair and CEO, PwC China. “We have reshaped our business to be future-ready, streamlining operations and focussing on strategic priorities. We are taking decisive actions to empower our people, enhance our stewardship of the environment, promote an equitable society and drive digital innovation.”

Some of the key areas covered in the report:

Sustainability in services

PwC’s service offerings are evolving as sustainability grows in strategic importance for businesses. Sustainability projects will help protect businesses from climate impacts, manage energy strategies, navigate regulation and build sustainable supply chains.

Responsible AI

PwC has significantly increased investment in AI – integrating it into client services and internal operations. Clear safeguards for data privacy and cybersecurity ensure ethical application of AI.

Pioneering a net zero future

We were one of the first firms to make a worldwide commitment to achieving net zero. In FY25 PwC China achieved a 44% reduction in carbon emissions from a FY19 baseline.

Empowering our people

We work to support our people in their personal and professional growth. In FY25 women made up 64% of our workforce, held 59% of management roles and accounted for 48% of new partner admissions.

Driving social impact

By combining financial donations, long-term collaborations and volunteer initiatives, we help to build more resilient communities. In FY25 we donated RMB 2.78 million to programmes that reached over 15,000 beneficiaries.

“In 2025 we continued to advance the sustainability agenda on multiple fronts. This includes reducing our Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions to 72% below the FY19 baseline,” says Douglas Johnson, Director, Corporate Sustainability, PwC China. “We have also provided our suppliers with the knowledge and insights they need to establish science-based targets (SBTs). Over 16% of PwC China’s suppliers (by emissions) were covered by validated SBTs in FY25. By strengthening these relationships, we hope to see a multiplier effect along the supply chain.”

“Our social responsibility is demonstrated through our actions,” says Josene Xing Zhou, Corporate Sustainability Leader, PwC China. “We translate our commitment into tangible results – from supporting rural revitalisation and educational equity to fostering a spirit of volunteerism – all in service of our core mission: building resilient communities. Each volunteer hour, every community donation, and all our collaborative efforts are focused on creating lasting, positive change where we live and work.”

The PwC China Sustainability Report provides an in-depth analysis of how the firm is committed to achieving the greatest good for the environment, for people and for society more broadly. In areas such as social responsibility or diversity and inclusion, we are able to share our experiences with clients, thus enriching and deepening our relationships. Meanwhile, by tackling challenges such as climate-related risk, we are taking steps to decarbonise our business while embedding climate considerations into the development and scaling of our services.
