Gabriel Capatina, Assistant Treasury Reconciliation Manager, Mace

Treasury Accelerate is an exclusive programme created in collaboration with J.P. Morgan Payments and Treasury Today Group. Bringing together emerging treasury professionals to join a community that focuses on career progression and skills development with the aim of nurturing and fostering future treasury talent. The Treasury Accelerate community offers people at the beginning of their career the opportunity to join panel sessions and workshops on topics ranging from the technicalities of a TMS to digital currencies. The programme also brings insights from experienced treasurers to help people further down the career ladder learn from their expertise and build their network. In the next in our series of spotlight articles where junior treasury professionals share their experiences, we hear from Gabriel Capatina, Assistant Treasury Reconciliation Manager at Mace.

Mace Construct Ltd is a UK leading construction company. It was founded in 1990 and specialises in high-profile infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects and has helped deliver iconic sites like The Shard, London Eye and various Olympic parks.

What have you learnt from being part of the Treasury Accelerate programme?

The most impactful development for me has been building my emotional intelligence, improving my confidence levels when speaking in front of and with large groups of people and sharing information about myself. It’s also helped me build strong relationships with colleagues from the same industry. The collaborative nature of the programme has helped me improve how I connect with others, fostering skills which have strengthened my overall emotional intelligence and confidence.

Looking back on your career so far, what achievement or milestone are you most proud of, and how has it helped shape your professional journey?

One of my biggest achievements as a treasury professional at Mace has been winning a team award for the Best Cash Pooling Solution and being part of the award presentation dinner at the Adam Smith Awards. I have also passed the first exam for ACT (CertF) with Distinction. Within the past eight months, I took part in a successful demerger, gaining experience and helping the company achieve its targeted demerger date.

How is your line manager supporting the cohort membership and the impact of your inclusion in the Treasury Accelerate Programme?

Our line manager is very supportive of career development. For example, he ensures staff are sponsored financially to study for the ACT and always pushes us to become better people and improve our skills and knowledge. He has also recommended that all his junior staff should attend the Treasury Accelerate programme every year and helps us build our communication and relationship building skills with the treasury industry, so we can learn from other experiences.

The Treasury Accelerate initiative in collaboration with J.P. Morgan Payments and Treasury Today Group invites people new to treasury to join a community focused on nurturing and fostering future treasury talent. Consisting of panel sessions, workshops, networking sessions and spotlight profiles to help junior treasurers learn from industry experts and build their network.
