Treasury Accelerate: the confidence-boosting initiative for future treasury talent

Treasury Accelerate is an exclusive programme created in collaboration with J.P. Morgan Payments and Treasury Today Group. Bringing together emerging treasury professionals to join a community that focuses on career progression and skills development with the aim of nurturing and fostering future treasury talent. The Treasury Accelerate community offers people at the beginning of their career the opportunity to join panel sessions and workshops on topics ranging from the technicalities of a TMS to digital currencies. The programme also brings insights from experienced treasurers to help people further down the career ladder learn from their expertise and build their network. In the next in our series of spotlight articles where junior treasury professionals share their experiences, we hear from the UK’s largest supplier of domestic electricity and gas, Octopus Energy’s Treasury Administrator, Jaskeet Sira.

Founded in 2015 and launching in 2026, Octopus Energy Group is a London based technology led energy supplier and generator, focused on accelerating the green energy transition. It operates in 18 countries and serves over 7.7 million households.

What has been the most impactful learning or experience you’ve gained through the Treasury Accelerate programme, and how has it supported your career development?

Attending the J.P. Morgan Treasury Accelerate programme really highlighted how critical the treasury function is to the overall success and stability of a company, something that is often underestimated from the outside. Hearing directly from industry speakers brought to life how treasury underpins liquidity, risk management and strategic decision making.

The programme has supported my confidence and motivation to take on more responsibility within my role, especially when it comes to driving improvements. I’ve become more proactive in identifying opportunities to enhance processes and, importantly, not shy away from developing and implementing automation where possible. It shifted my mindset from simply supporting existing workflows to actively looking for ways to optimise and add value.

Overall, the programme reinforced my interest in treasury as a dynamic and impactful area within finance, and it’s encouraged me to continue building both my technical knowledge and my ability to contribute more strategically.

Looking back on your career so far, what achievement or milestone are you most proud of, and how has it helped shape your professional journey?

One of the achievements I’m most proud of is the level of trust I’ve built within my team in a relatively short time. Being entrusted with key projects and contributing to strategic decisions has been a significant milestone. Through these experiences, I’ve developed both technically and professionally, strengthening my approach to problem solving, stakeholder management and commercial decision making. Taking ownership has pushed me to think more critically, challenge processes and focus on delivering real value.

This has shaped my journey by helping me move from an execution focused role to one where I contribute more strategically, while building confidence to take the initiative, drive improvements and support broader business objectives.

How is your line manager supporting the cohort membership and the impact of your inclusion in the Treasury Accelerate Programme?

My line manager has been very supportive of my involvement in the Treasury Accelerate Programme and the wider cohort experience. She actively encourages me to attend events and make the most of the opportunities available, which has been key in helping me broaden my exposure to the treasury industry.

She also works closely with me to set clear goals, ensuring that what I gain from the programme aligns with my development and our team’s objectives. This has helped me stay focused and intentional in applying what I’ve learned back to my role.

Beyond that, she places a strong level of trust in me by giving me ownership of projects and the space to contribute to more strategic work. This support has not only reinforced the value of the programme but has also enabled me to translate those learnings into tangible impact within the business.
