Two-nosed cat up for adoption!

Published: Nov 2023

A cat with two noses has recently been put up for adoption in Cheshire, United Kingdom.

The Cats Protection Adoption Centre in Padgate, Warrington is currently home to the two-nosed feline. Staff at the centre initially thought the four-year-old moggy had one large nose – but vets discovered it was actually two.

Staff at the centre have named the cat Nanny McPhee – due to her similarity to the fictional film character’s distinctively shaped nose.

Fiona Brockbank a Senior Field Veterinary Officer at the centre said: “A cat with two noses is a first for us in the field vet team. This is a real rarity but thankfully, it isn’t causing her any problems at all.”

Ms Brockbank says Nanny McPhee has what doctors call a “congenital malformation”. These conditions are more commonly known as “birth defects” because they develop inside the womb.

Staff at the centre describe Nanny McPhee’s malformation as a “real rarity”. “Other congenital malformations within that area of a cat, such as a cleft lip and cleft palate, are not uncommon,” Ms Brockbank says. “They can either be inherited or due to an incident whilst developing in the uterus.”

Nanny McPhee was given up for adoption due to her previous owner’s ill health and financial situation and she’s now looking to settle with a new loving family.

“We have all fallen in love with our one-of-a-kind Nanny McPhee. We can’t stop looking at her two noses, said Lindsay Kerr, Centre Manager. “She has proven to be a gentle lady who adores a fuss and a cuddle, and we are hopeful her new-found fame will mean she will have no shortage of potential adopters. She really does deserve a home where she can settle down and become the centre of a loving family.”
