Published: Jan 2023

25th January 2023 – Commerzbank has selected Brigitte Réthier to lead its Institutional Clients and Transaction Banking Sales division. This will also see her assume a divisional board member role.

Réthier’s primary responsibilities will be the global relationship management of financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions, as well as the distribution of cash management and trade finance products to corporate clients. She has taken over from Nikolaus Giesbert, who left the bank at the end of 2022.

The appointment supports Commerzbank’s strategy to build on its position as a leading financier of German foreign trade. Commerzbank handles more than 30% of Germany’s foreign trade, and its international network and transaction banking services are a vital resource for clients wanting to transact business along Germany’s most important trade corridors.

Réthier has 30 years of industry experience, and is fluent in German, French, Italian and English. Originally from Canada, Réthier began her career at Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto. In 1995, she relocated to Dresdner Bank in Frankfurt, which merged with Commerzbank in 2009. She has since held various senior positions, including Head of Business Strategy & Coordination for Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities and Head of Sales Management Institutional Clients, Segment Development & Digitalisation.
