Press release: BOCHK partners with Mastercard to launch BOC Chill Card

28th June 2022 – Bank of China (Hong Kong) (“BOCHK”) and Mastercard today jointly announced the launch of BOC Chill Card – the Bank’s first eco-friendly credit card, aiming to provide young customers who are fond of entertainment, leisure and green consumption with a “Chill” lifestyle. Young customers can enjoy a host of cash rebates and a flexible Pay Later instalment service to suit their lifestyles and spending patterns.

BOC Chill Card provides a 10% cash rebate1 for spending in entertainment, leisure and green categories, and a 5% cash rebate on overseas and online spending, as well as mobile payments. An unlimited 0.4% cash rebate is applicable to other retail spending. New customers who successfully applied for the credit card through BOCHK mobile banking and internet banking etc, can also enjoy up to a HK$600 cash rebate.

In addition, customers can choose to Pay Later by repaying the payments in three, six or 12 months1 for any single transaction of HK$1,000 or above anytime, anywhere. An unlimited Pay Later handling fee rebate for instalment service will be available for the first three months upon card activation. BOC Chill Card also offers global online shopping protection. All online purchases will automatically enjoy up to US$200 (equivalent to about HK$1,500) protection, in the event of incomplete or wrong item delivery, the item is damaged during the delivery process, or non-delivery after 30 days.

To in line with the positioning of BOC Chill Card – “The chill way to earn & enjoy”, the launch ceremony is held in a private clubhouse that oozes an atmosphere of cultural and artistic influences today. Officiating guests included Mr Huang Jinyue, General Manager of BOC Credit Card (International) Ltd; Ms Joanne Lam, Deputy General Manager of BOC Credit Card (International) Ltd; Ms Helena Chen, Managing Director of Mastercard Hong Kong and Macau; and celebrities Miss Ashley Lin and Mr Chris Tong.

Joanne Lam, Deputy General Manager of BOC Credit Card (International) Ltd, said, “BOCHK has always attached great importance to young segment and the introduction of ‘Banking TrendyToo’4 brand positioning earlier aims to fulfil their needs. Our credit card spending data shows that young segment’s percentage of spending on leisure and entertainment categories is double that of other customer segments. Online and mobile payments of young customers accounted for over 70% of their total number of transactions. In addition, our recent survey findings shed lights on the growing importance of pursuing a green lifestyle and work life balance for most youngsters. The new BOC Chill Card jointly introduced with Mastercard is designed to meet the needs of youths by offering cash rebates as its highlight. Discounts and rewards are also offered covering their daily spending scenarios from cinemas, online streaming video entertainment platforms, to coffee shops and green merchants etc. The additional ‘Pay Later’ instalment service will suit the lifestyle and flexible spending pattern of youngsters by allowing them to take control of their finances.”

Up to 10% cash rebate on entertainment, leisure and green spending

BOC Chill Card cardholders can enjoy a 10% cash rebate on merchant spending2, which covers three chill categories, including a variety of entertainment platforms: Apple TV/Music, App Store, cinemas in Hong Kong, Disney+, Google Play, JOOX, KK Box, MOOV, Netflix, Nintendo, PlayStation, Spotify and YouTube. The lifestyle category covers BigBig shop, city’ super, Cupping Room, eCup, Godiva, HKTaxi, Home+, LOG-ON, Neigbuy, On-The-List, Pacific Coffee, Starbucks, The Coffee Academics, Urban Coffee Roaster, YATA and Ztore; as well as green merchants such as Green Common, iHerb, Live Zero, Pure Yoga and Slowood.

For young customers who love music, BOC Credit Card exclusively presents “JW X Gigi Yim online concert”. BOC Chill Card cardholders can register in advance and redeem the concert pass free of charge3.
