Praise the almighty blockchain

Welcome to the world’s first decentralised religion.

In a short space of time blockchain has achieved an almost cult-like status. And now one blockchain aficionado has taken things a step further by creating the world’s first blockchain religion.

0xΩ (possibly meaning zero ex-omega) is the brainchild of former Augur CEO, Matt Liston and was unveiled recently at an event in New York.

Liston’s idea is that many of today’s major religions centralise power amongst a few, leaving the majority of worshippers unable to influence their core belief systems.

0xΩ decentralised approach changes this by giving every believer an equal stake in the religion (using the blockchain), enabling individuals to change part of the religious text, which Liston calls the ‘Flame Paper’.

Fair votes on important matters could also take place on the blockchain, with complete visibility over the results of these votes provided to each worshipper.

“It’s a religious framework that could allow for belief sets to update much more quickly and also to democratise the relationship between membership and convergence on what everyone believes in this religion,” Liston said at the launch of 0xΩ.
