Mouse caught in the act of tidying

Video footage from a shed in Wales proves a mouse has been tidying up at night after the owner.

The rodent, now nicknamed “Welsh Tidy Mouse” by the shed’s owner Rodney Holbrook, has been recorded gathering clothes pegs, corks, nuts and bolts and placing them in a tray on a workbench.

Mr Holbrook first realised something strange was happening back in October, when he ventured into his shed to find bird food he had been storing was being moved into a pair of shoes. Eager to find out what was happening after dark, he set up a camera.

Since, Mr Holbrook has turned it into a bit of an experiment, leaving out larger and heavier items on the desk to see if the mouse will lift it. Sometimes the mouse brings accomplices as one video shows two other mice joining in the activity.

“It happens every night without fail,” said the 75-year-old retiree. “I don’t bother to tidy up now, I leave things out of the box, and they put it back in its place by the morning.”

Mr Holbrook said his wife, Linda, “loves” the mouse and “thinks it is really funny.” However, she will no longer venture into the shed due to her fear of mice.

Whilst unusual, this is not the first time a mouse has been reportedly moving items. Back in 2019, a mouse was filmed moving items inside a man’s shed in Bristol, England. The rodent was nicknamed “Brexit Mouse” because the shed’s owner joked it was stockpiling for Britain’s exit from the European Union.
