Ikea is turning its famous Swedish meatballs into scented candles.

Lit candle spreading it's aroma

Every avid Ikea goer knows about their famous Swedish meatballs. How much do you love meatballs? Enough to have your entire house smell of them?

Ikea is turning its meatballs into scented candles. They are being offered up as a prize in their sweepstake event for ‘Ikea family’ loyalty club members, celebrating ten years of the free loyalty programme.

They hope a meatball scented candle is enough to entice new customer sign-ups for their loyalty card, offering members rewards and other perks. Over 1,900 lucky winners will be able to claim one of the Huvudroll meatball candles and let the sweet smell of meatballs waft through their homes.

Early on in the pandemic, as stores began to close, Ikea shared their meatball recipe for customers to enjoy at home. “Staying at home can be hard, but we want to help make everyone’s lives that little bit easier and more enjoyable. Bon appétit or, smaklig måltid, as we say in Sweden!” the company said.

In 2019, Ikea also announced they were working on a plant-based meatball option that “looks and tastes like meat but is made from plant-based alternative proteins”.

Ikea’s meatballs have been around since 1985, selling one billion every year!
