Plane drops three tons of gold over a Siberian runway.

A plane has accidentally dropped three tons of gold and numerous other precious metals and gems over a runway in the Siberian city of Yakutia.

The aircraft, belonging to Nimbus Airlines, suffered a fault with its cargo door, which caused it to inadvertently drop its payload.

“As it gathered height, the cargo door became damaged due to the shifting of cargo,” said a statement from Russia’s Investigative Committee.

Because of the incident, the plane was forced to land and the airport closed to recover the cargo.

Stanislav Borodyuk, a spokesperson for Kinross Gold, the company that owns the metal, told Interfax news agency that “all the cargo has been picked up, there are no losses.” He said the bars were Dore, a semi-pure alloy of silver and gold.
