Drivers in Nottingham given ‘hair-raising’ scare

Local ‘hero’ uses a hairdryer to slow passing traffic.

A grandmother has decided to take the law into her own hands after getting fed-up with drivers speeding down her road, by turning her hairdryer into a fake speed camera.

Jean Brooks, 63, from Nottingham, UK, cut the cord from her old hairdryer and began standing in her front garden pointing the device at drivers passing by.

The video, which has amassed over 300,000 views on YouTube shows the effectiveness of her method, with cars clearly slowing down after spotting the ‘gun’.

Speaking to the BBC, Brooks said: “People come up to me and hug me and say ‘thank you for making the street safer’.

“As far as the local school kids are concerned, I’m a national hero. If the traffic slows down nobody’s going to get hurt. I’ve already got a cat that’s only got three legs because he didn’t know his green cross code.”
