Thanks to a breakthrough in unique jellyfish science, humans could become ‘immortal’!

A team of scientists from the University of Oviedo in Spain have been studying one of the only known creatures on the planet that comes close to being classed as ‘immortal’ – and it could soon be used to help humans!

The Immortal Jellyfish, also known as Turritopsis Dohrnii, has the ability to switch from adult life back to larval stages, at will.

The scientists from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the university have identified the DNA part that allows the jellyfish to age backwards and found that part of it is similar to human DNA.

This means that it could one day, many years from now, possibly be used to reverse ageing in humans or help to cure certain diseases.
