The impact of geopolitics on supply chains; navigating green bond issuance and utilising cryptocurrency to increase the remit and flexibility of the treasury function are just some of the treasury topics up for discussion at the Group Treasurers Exchange Europe 2022 in Berlin 15th-16th November.
The conference offers the opportunity for senior treasurers to network with likeminded peers also navigating the same industry challenges in a relaxed, consultative, and friendly environment.
Conference themes and panel sessions include treasury’s evolution into a strategic support across the business. The pandemic highlighted and enhanced treasury’s role managing cash, liquidity, and associated risks at the time. For many treasurers, this role has now grown to encompass leadership around how best to protect the organisation against future uncertainties through forecasting and planning and the role of digitisation and automation in supporting strategic treasury. Elsewhere, conference sessions will focus on how treasury is supporting businesses to manage today’s biggest risks including inflation, rising rates and conflict in Europe.
Talent management is another conference theme. The treasury function is crucial for company profitability and growth, but treasury often finds itself isolated, understaffed, and overstretched. Expert panellists will discuss how to structure a team and hire and retain top talent in today’s challenging recruitment market.
Martin Schlageter, Head of Treasury Operations at Roche, a company he joined back in 1993, will discuss Roche’s journey to an in-house bank. Marc Pfefferli, Group Treasurer, Axpo Group, Switzerland’s largest producer of renewable energy and an international energy trading company, will share insights on how the company is integrating ESG, both increasing employee buy-in and ensuring it remains relevant to consumers. In another discussion, Jean Torrens, Group Treasurer, Havas Group will discuss utilising cryptocurrency to increase the remit and flexibility of the treasury function.
Other panellists include Felix Luber, Head of Treasury & Payments, Marley Spoon, the food company sending recipes and ingredients directly to people’s doors, Pedro Madeira, Group Treasurer, Wilko, and Ion Sclifos, Chief Financial Officer, Orange Communications SA.
Elsewhere, other corporate treasurers will share their experiences of breaking down silos and increasing cross-departmental collaboration, and how they improved the perception of their treasury function. Plenary sessions with expert thought leaders with truly insightful perspectives and case studies will be followed by Q&A. The agenda includes fireside chats between treasury leaders sharing stories and talking candidly about lessons learned.
