In a video posted on Instagram by Guinness World Records, Bryan was challenged to build the remarkable feat under the watchful eye of their adjudicator Thomas Bradford. Bryan constructed the house of cards (with commercially available playing cards) very slowly without using glue, any wiring or metalwork.

To achieve this amazing feat, Bryan required the room to be almost airtight and as humid as possible, to make sure the cards remained stable during the construction.

Bryan set his first record in card-stacking in 1992 and since then has consistently outperformed himself. His record for the tallest house of cards ever built – 7.86m (25 feet 9 inches) – was set by him in 2007 and to this day, remains unchallenged.

The pro card handler stacked his first deck of cards aged eight.

“I never ever intended for this to become my livelihood by any means,” Bryan said. “I’m trained as an architect, but this actually pays better.”

His previous work includes Cinderella’s castle, the skyline of New York as well as numerous landmarks, including Big Ben.

Bryan says some people think he’s wasting his time painstakingly stacking cards, but he thinks they’re missing the point.

“I mean, I’m a little crazy but who wouldn’t be for doing this, right?”
