Back in person for the first time in two years, Treasury Today’s Adam Smith Awards 2022 Celebration Dinner found much to celebrate.

For the first time in two years, Treasury Today’s community converged in London from across the US and EMEA for our 2022 awards in the majestic, and aptly named, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Over a delicious dinner, Winners, and Highly Commended Winners across 18 categories, all demonstrating the very best and brightest in treasury, were invited on stage alongside their banking partners by our publishers Meg Coates and Sophie Jackson to receive their awards.

Thank you very much for organising an excellent evening last night. It was a great opportunity to view the latest developments in the treasury space and to catch up with colleagues and peers.

Like the team at AstraZeneca, awarded Top Treasury Team for their role overseeing the company’s acquisition of US biotech group Alexion, and Microsoft, where Jayna Bundy, a champion of diversity and inclusion initiatives, won our Highly Commended Treasury Today Woman of the Year 2022 award.

Japanese tech giant Sony scooped Overall Winner, Best Treasury Transformation Project, for an innovative overhaul of its treasury processes to improve capital market access in each region and the treasury team at Pepco, Europe’s fast-growing chain of discount shops, came on stage to receive the Overall Winner award, Best Supply Chain Solution, for a programme that has extended payment terms to its 115 strategic suppliers in China, India and Bangladesh. Treasury teams at The Body Shop, Kellogg’s, Tesco and Nigeria LNG, plus many more, were acknowledged across our categories to resounding applause.

It was a pleasure being again physically present after two years of virtual celebration. Fantastic organisation in all points.

Amid all the celebrations a serious note sounded. In a personal and poignant opening address, Andrei Kirilenko, Professor of Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, an expert in fintech and born and raised in the war-ravaged city of Mariupol, made a heartfelt plea for treasury teams to incorporate values into the decision-making process.

Kirilenko left Ukraine in his teens to pursue academia in the US and the UK. His mother, 85, still lived in the city until she was killed during the invasion in March. “Think about whether your choice is going to cause anyone any harm. A business opportunity may look profitable, but if it is for something you don’t want to be associated with, don’t do it: money can support the wrong values.”

The event was great! We had lots of fun and met really interesting people.
