84-year-old fights off robber with a pair of jeans!

Published: Jan 2025

An 84-year-old man used a pair of jeans to help fight off a masked man who twice tried to rob him in his launderette.

Stack of folded denim jeans

Ron Croker was busy drying his clothes in his local launderette in Maltby, South Yorkshire, England, when the would-be robber burst in and demanded: “Give me your money now!”

Mr Croker stood firm and refused to give him his wallet.

He walked slowly towards the man and succeeded in forcing him out – whilst holding a pair of his jeans in one hand.

The man came back to try again, but Mr Croker was more than a match for him.

As the attacker tried to grab him, Mr Croker screamed “get off!” and whipped him with the jeans as he man-handled him out of the launderette.

“I’ve worked all my life for my money. He’s not having it,” Mr Croker told the BBC. “I gave him an almighty shove and he went rolling into the road,” he added.

Police have confirmed the 42-year-old man has now been charged with attempted robbery.

Mr Croker did sustain some bruises during the incident and a GoFundMe page has so far raised nearly £2,500 for him.
