Standing out

Within the insurance field, a largely male dominated space where women represent less than a quarter of senior leadership, Nandini Mongia stands out. In her current role, she is the first woman to hold the role of Treasurer at Prudential and is also the sole female executive on Prudential Global Finance Community’s senior leadership team.

This representation is significant, as Nandini has paved the way for a future generation of female leaders. She is passionate about helping women succeed in their careers and uses her experience and insights to help create opportunities for others to drive impact. Additionally, as co-Executive Sponsor of Prudential’s Global Finance Community’s Inclusion & Diversity Council, Nandini is enabling talent to be a strategic differentiator for the company. She believes that building diverse teams and an inclusive culture is not only a moral imperative, but a critical success factor for any organisation. Nandini is the 2021 Highly Commended Winner of Treasury Today’s Woman of the Year award. Nandini is a standout treasury professional in every sense.

Prior to joining Prudential, she previously worked in investment banking at Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers. Over the course of her 15+ year career in the investment banking sector, Nandini specialised in advising clients in the insurance industry on strategic opportunities and financial transactions. She built and managed key client relationships in the insurance industry and provided strategic advisory and investment banking services on various corporate actions.

Leveraging decades of industry knowledge and relationships, Nandini joined Prudential in 2017 as CFO of Prudential Retirement, a business unit of Prudential Financial, Inc. Her role saw her leading all financial functions across Prudential Retirement and its Full Service and Institutional & Pension Solutions businesses, as well as Prudential’s Workplace Solutions Group. Following her successful tenure as CFO of Retirement, Nandini assumed the role of Treasurer at Prudential in December 2018. Since then, she has been leading an organisation that proactively manages Prudential’s capital and liquidity resources to drive business outcomes and deliver on value creation for all stakeholders – including customers, investors, regulators, employees and the community.

Drive to succeed

Throughout her career, Nandini has exemplified exceptional leadership with outstanding business and financial acumen. In particular, through recent difficult pandemic and market conditions, she rose to the occasion to guide Prudential’s financial strength, strategy and execution of management actions. These actions demonstrated her ability to lead and bring multiple teams together around a common goal resulting in timely and sound decision making. She is a trusted partner and relied on extensively for her knowledge and judgement.

Agent of change

Nandini is known for her strategic discipline in connecting the proverbial dots, questioning the status quo and driving for change to improve outcomes for the company. As well, for coaching her teams to help them drive transformation in what they do and how they conduct business for impact.

During her years in investment banking and at Prudential, Nandini has invested significant time and effort in recruiting and mentoring talent in addition to serving on various committees where she has focused on building a strong pipeline of future leaders.

Outside of her work in the office, Nandini served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of Sakhi for South Asian Women, an organisation that exists to represent the South Asian diaspora in a survivor-led movement for gender-justice and to honour the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence.
