Tokyo City Hall is creating a unique dating app to promote marriage and childbirth.
The unique dating app called “Tokyo Futari Story,” is city hall’s new initiative to encourage residents to consider marriage and parenthood in a bid to tackle the country’s declining population.
The app’s name comes from “Futari” which means “two people” in Japanese, with the hope that people will come together through the dating programme.
While there is already an online site offering counsel and general information for potential lovebirds, Tokyo Futari Story will be released before the end of the year and will be accessible through phone or web.
Interested singletons may be asked to disclose their height, job, education, driver’s license and tax records to prove their income and to sign a form to confirm they are ready for marriage. And while Tokyo City Hall declined to comment on the dating app, it is sponsoring various events to provide a platform for singles to meet, couples to seek marriage counselling or share their love stories, which would be turned into comics or songs.
Marriage is on the decline in Japan as the country’s birth rate fell to an all time low, according to latest health ministry data and officials hope their push for romance will not be in vain.
