On Thursday 12th October 2017 our highly acclaimed Treasury Today Women in Treasury Forum returned to New York. This exciting event is one of the annual industry highlights in the USA, London and Singapore and is a firm fixture in the diaries of women and men right across these regions.
The venue was the spectacular Pierre hotel near Central Park and the Forum was attended by corporates and their banking and technology partners from across the US.
The Women in Treasury Forums are a key part of our global Women in Treasury initiative and provide an unrivalled opportunity to personally connect with some of the most successful leaders in our industry. This year’s panel comprised:

This exciting event presented a superb opportunity to hear these renowned industry speakers share their insights and personal experiences and debate some of the key issues highlighted by our Women in Treasury Study. The panel discussion was followed by an open Q&A session, enabling guests to make their voices heard and pose questions to the panel. Susan Mercer
Vice President, Assistant Treasurer: Cargill
Susan Mercer has served as assistant treasurer since 2012. Her responsibilities include North America treasury, global insurance programs, and financial institution relationship management. She joined Cargill in 1992 and has held positions in in cash management, financial trading operations, project management, worldwide audit, business development and corporate treasury advisory. Previously she was assistant regional treasurer and director of Cargill Asia Pacific Treasury Ltd. in Singapore. Susan graduated from the University of Saint Thomas with a B.A. in business administration and has completed an executive education program at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
Jenifer Herdin
Vice President, International Treasury: Viacom
Jenifer K. Herdin is responsible for oversight of all international treasury operations including working capital management, foreign exchange risk management, banking relationships, defined benefit and contribution management, intercompany financing and various special projects. She oversees the treasury teams in NY, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and London. Jenifer is also the Co-Chair of HERE, Viacom’s employee resource group for women. Jenifer earned a Bachelor of Science degree from New Jersey City University (1999) and an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Master of Science degree in International Business (2004) from Seton Hall University. Jenifer is also a Certified Treasury Professional.
Mary Gilbert
Treasury Manager: Duracell
Mary Gilbert, Treasury Manager at Duracell, has nearly ten years of experience working in corporate treasury. Mary has lead several process improvement initiatives across Finance and Accounting, Real Estate management, T&E policy development, FX policy reviews and updates, the roll out of Dodd Frank and EMIR, and numerous cash management process improvements. Over the years, Mary has become an FX expert, perhaps because of her ability to anticipate and react to the unexpected. Prior to her role at Duracell, Mary managed the balance sheet hedging program for CommScope.
Karen Gilhooly
Executive Vice President, Global Liquidity and Cash Management Head of Client Management – North America: HSBC
Karen Gilhooly joined HSBC in 2012 as Head of PCM’s Business Management Group. In 2013, Karen became Head of the North American Client Management organisation for HSBC’s Cash Management Team. Karen is responsible for the “overall client experience” in the United States and Canada with Teams: Client Implementation, Client Integration, Client Services, and Program Management. Karen has over 28 years of sales and product management experience across a spectrum of financial institutions and technology companies. Previously she spent 25 years with Citibank. Karen is married and has two sons. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois with a double major in History and Language Arts.
Eric Houser
Executive Vice President, Head of Technology, Media and Telecom Corporate Banking Group: Wells Fargo
Eric Houser is an executive vice president and group head for the Wells Fargo Technology, Media and Telecom Group. Eric oversees a team who deliver the bank’s full suite of banking capabilities to customers across the United States. Eric received his B.A. in business administration from Saint Mary’s College in California, and his M.B.A. in finance from the Eberhardt School of Business at the University of the Pacific. Eric currently serves on the boards of Joint Venture Silicon Valley and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University. He is also the Executive Sponsor on the Wells Fargo Diversity and Inclusion Council.
Sophie Jackson
Joint Publisher & Head of Strategic Content: Treasury Today Group

Sophie Jackson is Joint Publisher & Head of Strategic Content at Treasury Today Group and has 12 years experience in publishing. She began her career in a role in cultural publishing at the Dazed Group, coordinating both editorial content and creative partnerships in Europe and the US. After moving to Tokyo in late 2010, Sophie headed up the launch of Treasury Today Asia in 2012. This was followed by a move to Hong Kong in 2014. Treasury Today Asia is now read by 65,000 corporates across Asia-Pacific and our Adam Smith Awards Asia are in their sixth year. Sophie has been an integral force behind our global Women in Treasury initiative and is a passionate proponent of diversity and inclusion. She is a UCL graduate who studied in Paris and London.
