The challenge

Corporate treasury teams operate in an environment where market events, geopolitical shocks, counterparty concerns, liquidity signals and exposure data can move faster than traditional reporting cycles. Microsoft’s challenge was not a lack of data; it was the inability to connect external signals with treasury’s own financial exposures quickly enough to support proactive decisions.

Critical insights were spread across internal systems and external news sources, requiring teams to manually monitor events, reconcile data and align on impact under intense time pressure. In fast-moving situations, this created duplicated work, inconsistent risk interpretation and delayed decision-making when treasury needed one shared view of exposure and action.

Banking failures and geopolitical shocks made the gap clear: reactive monitoring and ad-hoc coordination were no longer sufficient for a treasury function operating at global scale. The new solution needed to continuously monitor external events, connect them to internal treasury data and deliver role-specific, explainable insights that could be acted on by treasury teams and leadership.

The solution

Treasury 360 (“Qiro”) is an AI-powered treasury intelligence platform designed to enhance, not replace, human judgment. It combines real-time market and geopolitical news, internal treasury data and AI-driven recommendations in a single, role-based intelligence platform so treasury teams can move from reactive analysis to proactive decision support.

The solution is best described through three connected capabilities:

  • Connect: unify external market and news signals with internal data such as cash positions, receivables, exposures and capital markets activity.

  • Contextualise: assess relevance and risk using Microsoft-defined criteria tailored to specific treasury personas.

  • Act with human in the loop: recommend actions aligned to treasury policies and workflows, enabling teams to coordinate faster and with greater confidence.

Qiro was implemented through close collaboration between treasury practitioners, engineering and data science teams. The rollout was deliberately incremental: starting with high‑impact treasury personas, integrating trusted external news feeds, unifying internal data sources already used in day-to-day operations, and using pilot and and user acceptance testing (UAT) feedback to refine prompts, risk logic and visualisations before expanding.

Treasury Today Group’s judging panel felt Qiro was an impressive approach showcasing improvements which go far beyond treasury – wiping out timely delays and realising “real-time treasury (information)”.

“Winning the Adam Smith Award for Best use of AI in Corporate Treasury is a tremendous honour for our team across treasury and engineering. More than recognition for a technology solution, it validates a new way of working, one where AI helps treasury professionals move from reactive response to proactive decision-making. Qiro was built to enhance human judgment, bringing together market events, global news and financial exposures into a single trusted view of risk. We are proud that our work is helping redefine how treasury teams anticipate change, collaborate under pressure and make better decisions when it matters most.”

Best practice and innovation

Qiro demonstrates best practice by moving treasury from fragmented monitoring to integrated, AI‑supported decision‑making. Rather than simply adding another dashboard, it embeds external events, Microsoft‑specific financial exposures, role-based context and governance‑aligned recommendations into a trusted decision hub for volatile moments.

Its innovation lies in applying AI in a practical, responsible and human-centered way. Qiro tailors insights by treasury persona, uses internally defined risk criteria and keeps transparency into the data and reasoning behind recommendations so AI augments, not replaces, expert judgment.

Key benefits

  • Process efficiencies.

  • Faster risk awareness and decision support.

  • Improved visibility.

  • Risk mitigated.

  • Increased automation.

  • Increased system connectivity.

  • Manual intervention reduced.

  • More consistent interpretation of risk.

  • Future-proof solution.

Qiro was created to solve three connected problems: fragmented information, slow response during volatility and inconsistent interpretation of risk across treasury teams. It has met those aims by unifying real-time external news with internal treasury data, applying AI to assess relevance in the context of specific treasury roles and giving teams a shared view for coordinated action. The result is faster awareness of emerging risks, less reliance on manual monitoring and email-driven coordination, and more consistent alignment across treasury functions when decisions matter most.
