For more than a decade, Greece has been on a remarkable journey of resilience. Emerging from years of crisis, the country is redefining its identity on the global stage, not solely as a nation of culture and tourism, but also as a hub of financial expertise, innovation and leadership. At the heart of this transformation stands the Hellenic Association of Treasurers (HAT), a community that has become a beacon of knowledge, professionalism and international collaboration.
Founded to fill a long-standing gap in Greece’s professional ecosystem, HAT has provided a home for treasurers, financial leaders and corporate practitioners to exchange ideas, promote best practices and advance the country’s competitiveness. By giving voice to a profession too often working behind the scenes, HAT is also projecting abroad a new narrative of Greece, one that highlights strength, credibility and global relevance beyond the traditional pillars of shipping and tourism.
The Board of Directors: Alexandros Koliavras, Yannis Lefas, FCT, Iliana Angelakis, Chariton Papatriantafyllou, CFA, Christos Baltoumas, Konstantinos Andritsopoulos, and Andiola Mehalla, CFA, together with a dedicated team of members, are driving this vision with energy and purpose. From Athens to New York, London to Brussels, their work resonates that Greece is back, more confident and more shining than ever.
The culmination of this collective effort is embodied in the 5th HAT International Treasury Summit, hosted this September at the Stavros Niarchos Lighthouse. This flagship event has grown into a major gathering of thought leaders from Greece and abroad, where state institutions, central bankers, corporates, rating agencies and international investors globally converge to discuss the future of the treasury profession. It is not only a summit for treasurers; it is a celebration of Greece’s journey towards credibility, transparency and economic renewal.
As President Alexandros Koliavras notes: “For half a decade, our association is growing and together we managed to do unimaginable things! We are looking forward to continuing to promote our country abroad, educating our treasurers and leading the treasury community with passion and light.”
These words capture the essence of HAT’s mission: to combine professional excellence with national purpose. Treasury is not merely about numbers; it is about trust, stability and the lifeblood of economic growth. In elevating the profession, HAT elevates Greece itself.
The story of Greece’s economic recovery is not only written in fiscal surpluses or credit upgrades, it is also written in the commitment of communities like HAT. By nurturing knowledge, strengthening institutions and forging international bridges, they are helping to build a new productive model, one where Greece competes with confidence in the global marketplace.
The journey continues, and the message is clear: the Greek treasury community is not only part of Greece’s recovery, it is shaping its future.
