Adam Smith Awards 2018

Over 200 entries spanning 35 countries

This year we celebrate 11 years of our Adam Smith Awards and over the years we have received hundreds of submissions from a diverse universe in terms of company size, industry sector and geography. This year was no different; nominations were received from Bahrain to Brazil, Canada to Cameroon and Kuwait to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – a truly international suite of solutions across a broad range of corporate treasury departments. What remains crystal clear is the sheer hard work, determination, teamwork, collaboration and innovation which continues to be showcased in the many nominations that were entered.

Use of technology continues to be a key focus in many of the solutions showcased and our Harnessing the Power of Technology category accounted for a quarter of the submissions entered. The Best Cash Management, Best Working Capital/AP/AR, Best Trade/Supply Chain and Best Foreign Exchange solution categories were also very popular. As in previous years, our Top Treasury Team, Woman of the Year and A Rising Star categories were also very well supported. The quantitative as well as qualitative benefits being achieved are truly remarkable and demonstrate what is possible with the right solution.

Some key themes are emerging too. Several entries were again driven by M&A activities, treasury transformation projects involving technology and projects which deliver some impressive funding and foreign exchange as well as Middle East and Africa solutions. The geographic dimensions of the solutions are also worth highlighting, with almost half being global in nature. Collaborative solutions are also prevalent, especially where banks and technology companies have partnered to deliver a particular solution and the use of treasury consultants is also noticeable in this year’s nominations.

Treasury Today wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many corporates who took part and offer our congratulations to all our winners and their partners.

“I think the most important thing is the excellent recognition that we get. It validates the work that we’ve done as a team, not just to us but to our senior management and to our board and our shareholders. Coming from an organisation like Treasury Today, which is obviously world class and global, just adds so much more to that validation.”
