How to Cope-in-Hagen at this year’s EuroFinance Conference

It’s that time of year again. The annual EuroFinance International conference is upon us, and this time it’s headed to the Bella Centre in Copenhagen from 16th-18th October.

The theme for the 28th incarnation is ‘The Resilient Treasury’, and in the words of the organisers, it’ll be looking at how to “achieve operational excellence”, “answer the call for innovation”, and “help the business respond to disruption”.

Since there will be a lot going on, here are some possible session highlights to look out for.

Treasury priorities: must do vs nice to do – Day 1, Plenary, 11:20am

Customers, regulators, politicians and technology all threaten instability for businesses, and therefore treasurers. Learn how to prepare for these new threats that face treasurers as the world progresses at a rapid pace.

Should treasury transform or change its current structure? – Day 1, Stream 2, 4:00pm

How do treasurers adapt to change? When should they adapt to change? What changes should be made to ensure smooth sailing for both the treasurer and the business as a whole? This session aims to look at how treasury can be agile enough to survive the large amounts of political and economic uncertainty in the world.

Building the business case for better treasury technology – Day 1, Stream 3, 4:00pm

How do treasurers decide when to implement a new treasury management system? More importantly, how do they choose between the vast amount of choice on offer nowadays? And how do they weigh up the costs and benefits of a whole new system? This session explores these questions and will hopefully offer some answers.

Treasury: the backbone of enterprise data – Day 1, Stream 4, 2:00pm

These panellists discuss how treasury has risen to become the fount of knowledge – and appropriate data – in a global trading environment. The function’s strategic importance is now unquestionable.

Liquidity priorities in a changing world – Day 1, Stream 6, 2:00pm

Gurjit Pannu, Senior Treasury Manager for Uber in the Netherlands, goes through how he’s managing his risk portfolio in an ever-riskier world, and how you can adapt and overcome problems that may come your way.

SWIFT gpi for corporates a reality – Day 1, Discovery Lab 2, 4:00pm

Sophie Lengard of Air Liquide and Phillippe Penichoi of Societe Generale discuss how SWIFT gpi has made treasury easier, allowing them to track their funds in real-time, and simplified viewing of their financial information.

Tearing up the treasury roadmap – Day 1, Discovery Lab 4, 2:00pm

Frances Hinden, Vice President of Treasury Operations, Shell explores what financial services can look forward to in the future with advances in technology and the importance of sustainability, and how treasurers can learn to be a part of it.

The collaboration culture in action: future of financial services – Day 2, Plenary, 11:40am

A panel of experts from 11:FS, Mastercard, BNP Paribas and Citi aim to answer most treasurers’ burning questions about how the future of financial services is affected by banking sector disruptors, and what can be done to make for smoother sailing.

Using APIs and real-time banking to drive new business solutions – Day 2, Discovery Lab 1, 2:40pm

This session with Javier Orejas, Head of Banking EMEA, the Americas and IATA Pay leader, IAIA looks at case studies of how treasurers have helped to develop solutions that seek to exploit the rise of new and immediate connectivity. Expect to hear how treasurers can help build new ways – and maybe new platforms – to source and merge data for the greater good.

Political stressors: acute, chronic and global – Day 3, Plenary, 9:20am

Charles Hecker, Senior Partner, Control Risks, an expert in risk management, discusses how treasurers can deal with the constant and worsening political instability that threatens businesses all over the world.
