Benchmarking the Benchmarking Studies
We have been undertaking treasury Benchmarking Studies for several years now. Initially we sought to understand what treasuries were doing and what was best practice in the industry. This year we are going further and asking exactly which ‘marks on the bench’ are being used and what your concrete measures are.
This goes beyond anything that has been done before and is beginning to provide some very interesting data. But we need your support if we are going to make this an even more relevant project.
So what can you do?
First and foremost please take part in the initiative. It will only take a few minutes of your time and The European Study is under way right now at treasurytoday.com/benchmarking.
It does not matter whether you do or do not use benchmarks or KPIs. That information is itself of value. We are finding that measures are used extensively in some areas – and industries – and much less so in others.
Remember that your answers are confidential. J.P. Morgan, our sponsor, without whom none of this would have been possible, only sees aggregate responses, not the individual detail.
Secondly, as you complete the study please tell us if we are missing something or should be asking something else. The Studies have become better and better because of input from you, the corporate treasury participant. With your help we can make them even more meaningful. Our aim is to provide increasingly relevant and targeted information to the corporate treasurer.
This year’s Studies have disclosed a surprisingly high number of corporates using scorecards on their banks and suppliers in the Middle East, demonstrating a real shift towards international best practice. Dematerialisation is another growing trend, with 23% of companies in the Asia Pacific region planning to adopt eBAM over the next 12 months, with 16% of companies already using it.
To get more detail on other interesting findings please look at the videos on our website, where experts from J.P. Morgan give their reaction to some of the highlights. For complete detail, you can request your copy of the results via our website.
We benchmark in various regions around the world and would be delighted to receive your input in any regions that apply to your role. In return, we will of course send you complimentary copies of the results, courtesy of J.P. Morgan.
Finally, during 2012 we will be presenting our findings to corporates in Dubai, Singapore, United States, Monaco, Brazil, China and at our European Benchmarking Roadshows in Dublin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, Brussels and Amsterdam. If you want to be involved please register online at treasurytoday.com/benchmarking.
