Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s GTS EMEA Head, Carole Berndt, is to head up GTS for the Royal Bank of Scotland globally.

Carole Berndt, most recently Managing Director, Global Transaction Services (GTS), EMEA at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofA Merrill), will join the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as Global Head of GTS, after a period of gardening leave.

BofA Merrill has not yet announced Berndt’s replacement. In the interim, Paul Simpson, Head of GTS, will lead the EMEA senior leadership team. A spokesperson from BofA Merrill told Treasury Today: “Our EMEA business is one of the fastest-growing GTS platforms in the market and its attractiveness to clients is built on strong relationships, superior technology, innovative solutions, global connectivity and a deep global team.”

Berndt joined BofA Merrill in 2010 after a more than eight-year stint at Citi as Managing Director. From 1998 to 2001, she was a Director at American Express, and prior to that she spent two years at Allianz Australia.
