Forget TMS – you need a TiMS

While many treasurers are still fighting for budget to upgrade their existing systems to a TMS, a quiet revolution is happening: the rise of the TiMS. This trend looks set to signal the advent of a true primary decision support system for treasurers. But what exactly is a TiMS and what can it do for you?

  1. In a "perfect" TiMS the treasury department of tomorrow should also include debt management and covenant compliance features. Not only should this system calculate financial covenants but it should track compliance with the many "hidden" covenants embedded in a typical credit agreement, indenture, leasing agreement, etc. Compliance features place a premium on forecasting as it is important to have information about compliance (or potential default) before a period ends, not afterwards, so management can take the apprpriate actions to reduce their exposure and future costs.

  2. Very good feedback. I guess "Compliance Management" will be the n.7 element of the TiMS stack

  3. It is unquestionable that treasury gets more and more responsibility and should have the answers to many questions at a finger tip. Making information available and comparable in a smart way and putting it into context is a problem which must be addressed. As the article rightfully states no single system can provide the solution today. With more and more specialized solutions and many new and very good SaaS products in the market it will not become easier for a treasurer to get the information collected, sorted and made available in a useful way. Web 2.0 tools can help sorting this problem while helping a treasurer sorting out the information overflow. At ENTARENA we call this "treasury 2.0" and we were fortunate that we could recently solve with our application exactly such a problem with one of the largest airlines in the world.

  4. For all who have given comments on this article should have a look at JACCOO. "As the article rightfully states no single system can provide the solution today" is not correct. Forget TiMS – you need JACCOO should be the header.

  5. Interesting to see some different treasury software companies coming out of the woodwork to comment on this one. I wonder what the tech vendor landscape will look like in five years time...?
